How is an appraisal done?

St Louis Jewelry RepairsEach piece of jewelry will be researched, weighed, photographed and measured and instruments will be used to test and evaluate the item. A written report will be prepared and you will receive a complete and accurate documentation of your jewelry, with its appropriate value, performed using methods that will stand up to scrutiny.
According to Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company the basic factors that determine the value of your jewelry include:

  • The carat weight of diamonds and other gemstones as well as the cut, color and clarity
  • Current retail prices in the regional market
  • Quality and number of diamonds and gemstones if applicable
  • Weight of the precious metal used in the mounting
  • Origin of the materials used
  • Craftsmanship of the piece
  • Manufacturer’s marks including brand name, serial numbers, and model numbers for pieces like watches

All of these factors will be addressed in every appraisal.
